Top favorites in the 2020 Women’s European Water Polo Championship betting odds
Online sportsbooks in Hungary are giving similar odds for six teams in the competition. Spain is the top favorite with 3.00 odds to win. The team which got the bronze on home soil in the last European Championship. This year they finished second in the world championship in South Korea, losing against the United States in the final. The Spanish team is one of the most successful women teams, winning once the Olympics, 3 times the World and 3 times the European Championships. They are successful at club level too, Club Natacio Sabadell, a club based in Barcelona has won the premier competition for clubs in the 2018-19 season.
In the 2020 Women’s European Water Polo Championship betting odds another big favorite with 4.00 odds is the reigning champion, The Netherlands. They have managed to win the Euros five times so far, but their performance hasn’t been that convincing recently. They only reached the quarter-final in the world championship and finished fourth in the World League in 2019. These top two teams are in the same group, so their meeting on the 19th of January will be a special game, even if it won’t have much significance.
In the other group, we find the Russian team. They were offered the same odds, 4.00 for winning the championship. For the simple reasons that they’ve already won the European Championship three times in a row between 2006 and 2010. True though, that since then they haven’t reached the top of the podium at the Euros. But finishing third in the Olympics in Rio and in the World Championship in 2017 can prove their strongness. Just as their start of the competition, winning 31-2 against the poor Slovakian team.

Home team and the Mediterranean duo
Playing in front of the home fans is always an advantage, and the Hungarian team will have powerful support in the Danube Arena. Just like the men’s team, the Hungarian women’s water polo has a successful history. They won the European Championship three times, last time in 2016 and twice the World Championships a few years ago. But they are always within the top teams, fighting for a medal, here they might do it for the gold. Online gambling sites in Hungary are giving also 4.00 odds for a home win. They also started well yesterday, with the rest of the favorites doing the same.
Bookmakers are also mentioning two other teams as possible winners, Italy and Greece. Italy is a five-time European Championship winner, last they were the best of Europe in 2012. But recently this team hasn’t been in a top form either, finishing only sixth in the last Euro and World Championships. Even though Greece has never won the Euros, they were close to it a few times, for example in Barcelona in 2018. They were also world champions in 2011 so they are capable of achieving a great result in Hungary. Bet365 is offering the odds of 6.00 for the Italian and the odds of 16.00 for a Greek win. As the final is only on the 25th of January, you still have a chance to check all the odds. And you can also read our review about bet365 sportsbook if you’d like to know more about the site.
