Wayne Rooney confirmed today that he will be retiring from international competition following the 2018 World Cup in Russia
Thirty year old Wayne Rooney made UK gambling news while speaking to media today by confirming what many analysts had been predicting. Following the 2018 World Cup, Rooney will be retiring from international competition. It’s a fitting end for one of England’s most beloved players.
Rooney has led England for the past two years, and was confirmed to remain capital of the national team this week heading into the 2018 World Cup. He holds the record for goals scored at 53 in 115 appearances. Rooney spoke today of his motivation moving forward, and what led him to make the decision to retire after Russia.
“I said before the Euros I enjoyed playing in this team, and that’s the case still. There were some questions about whether I should stop playing, but I am looking forward to getting back on the pitch.” He continued, “I made my mind up before the Euros, whether we did well or not, that I was going to continue. I’ve had nothing to think about since then. My mind is made up… Russia will be my last tournament.”
You can bet on the 2018 World Cup winner now
Despite the fact that the tournament isn’t for two years, you can still place your bets on who you think will win. BetVictor has set the odds, and unsurprisingly, Germany stands as the favorites with odds of 5/1. Argentina comes in as the second favorites to win with odds of 7/1, and Brazil at number three with odds of 8/1.
It seems Wayne Rooney’s position as captain of England has boosted the teams betting odds, as they hold the sixth highest chance to win at 14/1. This comes as a bit of a surprise considering their poor performance at the 2016 Euro Championship.
