As Bojo and Jeremy Hunt (a man who is his own rhyming slang) continue the hustings the Conservative leadership election odds for Boris Johnson at Bet365, one of the best places to bet on sports in the UK, keep him firm favorite. However, the future isn’t all that rosy even if he wins. With parliament fragmented over Brexit a general election could lurk just around the corner and that’ll provide some far more interesting wagers than the current conservative coronation.

Having voted to leave the EU the UK now finds itself having to vote on whom to send to the EU represent it. No, I haven’t mistyped that, this is really what’s happening. To add mud to the mire at present the EU Election odds on the Brexit Party at Bet365, one of the best online betting sites in the UK these days, seem to indicate they’ll win the most seats. Indeed backing the Brexit Party could be the only way to benefit from this very British and ever more bizarre farcical situation.

It looks like the UK has to hold their EP Elections in May to stay in the EU a bit longer. While the Tories don’t really have a chance to win, bookies argue that the Labour Party is going to get most of the votes. However, if you bet on the EP Elections in the UK, we think you should look at the Brexit Party first...

Eleven candidates will contest the Newport West by-election, set for April 4. But only 4 have a chance to win. Bookmakers suggest Labour Ruth Jones is the favourite. Yet you can consider betting on Newport West by-election winner to be one of three top challengers. They include Plaid Cymru’s Jonathan Clark, Ukip’s Neil Hamilton, and Tories’ Matthew Evans.

When Jeff Zucker, head of CNN, said “The idea that politics is sport is undeniable” he was confirming what many cynics had known for a long time. Sure, it’s a pretty dire state of affairs when a bet on sports in the US is the same as a bet on the election results, but much […]

Traditionally Christmas is a time of peace on earth and goodwill to all men. The fact women weren’t mentioned and that peace on earth is just something Miss World contestants say with a straight face means that realistically the festive season is just as acrimonious as the rest of the year and this Christmas casino […]

Looking at the odds that were touted, the polls that were cited, the obvious sense of voting to remain and the nasty ignorant racism of the vote Leave campaign, it seems unfathomable that the UK could have voted to leave the European Union, so were there a Brexit odds manipulation by bookies to lure people […]

The media’s fury at the election results spoiling their schedules means the leadership contests are likely to be front and center, but which of the hopefuls should you be betting on? As the polls closed and the results rolled in no one was more surprised that David Cameron’s Conservative party who found far from merely […]

The bookies would have us believe that we’ll have a hung parliament in the UK next week, but does that reflect a mistrust of politicians to be different from each other? “It’s like, sometimes,” says the terminally baffled intern Will Humpries (played superbly by Hugh Skinner) in the BBC’s self-mocking series W1A, “you have to […]

With the Labour leader now getting better odds of being the next prime minister than the prime minister is should we all be backing a coalition with the SNP whatever Ed Miliband has said? The latest televised debate came just three weeks before the election, so why didn’t David Cameron, the Prime Minister, turn up and take part? Three weeks ahead of the British General Election the array of “challengers” to the sitting government got together for a televised debate. It was an evening of trite statements, dour dialogue […]

British politics is seeing the rise in importance of the smaller parties and nowhere has this become more vital than in the TV debates debate As the genius social commentator Charlie Brooker pointed out David Cameron has adopted a brusque manner to avoid answering questions where at the end of a publicly made statement, or […]

Nothing focuses an election campaign like a televised debate between the candidates, which is perhaps why some politicians are less than enthusiastic Television debates have long been part of the political process, or so we think. We have a hazy memory of Kennedy vs Nixon, the black & white TV pictures of men in suits […]

In the end the Rochester & Strood By Election might have sent a message to Westminster ahead of the general election in the UK set for May 2015, but what was it? The somewhat staid and stuffy world of British politics has been facing an unprecedented challenge to the status quo the likes of which […]

Is the Rochester & Strood by election a blazing chance to judge the government or just a dead rock that happens to be flying by the political solar system this November? When bookmakers and online gambling sites in the UK slashed their odds of alien invasion to 100/1, less than that of a Liberal Democrat […]

With another by-election signposting the way towards the general election in the UK next year we take a look at the parties and their chances.
