Poker in Paraguay
Poker is growing in popularity in Paraguay, but it is still hard to find a real-money game that is legal. Until a few years ago, there were dozens of card halls and casinos across Paraguay, but in 2005, the government tightened its grip on gambling, and today there are only three casinos left in the whole country.
The first is the Hotel Resort Casino in Asuncion, where two poker tables offer regular games. The second is the Gran Casino del Itaipu in Ciudad del Este; here, 6 poker tables are available for players. The third legal Panamanian gambling venue, the San Bernadino Country Club, does not offer poker at all.
That means there are only two places in all of Paraguay that offer real-money poker games. This lack of availability is seriously limiting the spread of poker though the country, and the game is not as well known in Paraguay as it is in other nearby nations.
Online Poker in Paraguay
There are no true Paraguayan poker websites, so players must use foreign online poker sites. These sites are hosted far out of the Paraguayan government's reach.
Foreign online poker rooms usually offer a wide variety of games and tournaments, and have a large user base so there are always games to join. Not all poker sites online will accept players from Paraguay, but many will, making them a fine alternative to land-based poker.
