2024 Champions League Quarter-Finals Predictions

The draw for the current UEFA Champions League quarter-finals season has been finalized. Manchester City faces off against Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain takes on Barcelona, while two other matches don’t fall back. Bookies have come up with predictions for the outcomes of the 2024 Champions League quarter-finals, so check them out!

Arsenal v Bayern Munich 

Arsenal has been doing very well in the Champions League this season and reached the quarter-finals for the first time since 2010 when Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott played for the team, and Arsene Wenger was the head coach. Arsenal remain one of the only big clubs yet to win the tournament alongside Atletico Madrid, and this year may be their year at last. Although they barely beat Porto on penalties, Arsenal remains one of top-3 favorites to win the competition behind Manchester City and Real Madrid. 

The only problem is that they will face Bayern Munich, who on the last three occasions beat them 5-1 each. Bayern have been Arsenal’s kryptonite and the London club’s fans still remember those awful games. However, it is different this time and Arsenal are not the same average club they were eight years ago. Moreover, Bayern players look weak this season, and their odds aren’t great even at online sportsbooks in Germany. They will not win the Bundesliga for the first time in eternity and are already out of the German Cup, so it is only the Champions League they have a chance for. 

Verdict: Arsenal advances if they win the home game by a 3-goal advantage, which they can achieve.

Real Madrid v Manchester City

This draw is worthy of being a final game, but it was drawn a little too early to be the final. Both clubs are the favorites to win the competition, and pretty much whoever wins will likely go on to win the whole tournament. The clubs’ previous history is exciting: in the 2021/22 season, Real pulled out one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the Champions League when they scored two goals during added time. In 2022/23, Manchester City returned the favor by beating the Spanish club 4-0. 

This year, the chances are evenly matched, almost 50/50, and while Real’s La Liga title is certain, City will have to fight for it. Of course, City has three full squads that can fight on all fronts to win the second treble. Real can count on the fact that against Liverpool and Arsenal, City looked lost and had no idea what to do against those teams. Real can use this and play the same hand against City.

Verdict: Though the teams are evenly matched, Man City will advance in extra time.

Atletico Madrid v Borussia Dortmund

While Borussia was expected to reach the 2024 Champions League quarter-finals ,Atletico’s win was unexpected, considering Inter Milan were the bigger favorites due to their domination in Serie A. Now that Inter is out of the competition, Atletico-Borussia is an evenly matched draw at Bet365. Both Borussia and Atletico have no chance of winning their domestic titles, so they will go guns blazing in the Champions League. 

It is tough to predict who will get through to the next stage of these two. Atletico Madrid counts on the new style of football they played under the same coach; Borussia has the incredible support of their fans, who will come to play in the second leg. Borussia will not want this draw to go down to penalties for sure, so they will have to get wins in both legs. For Atletico, it feels easier as they are masters of commanding games with minimal advantage. If the Spanish club wins the first game 1-0, they will most likely advance to the semis.

Verdict: Atletico to advance after a draw in the second leg.

PSG v Barcelona

This one is difficult to judge on all accounts. First, this draw will be one of the most boring since PSG and Barcelona do not show great football this year. PSG is done with Mbappe, who is not motivated to play for the French club, and Barcelona is not the same team that won everything in the 2010s. Moreover, whoever passes the 2024 Champions League quarter-finals will likely lose to either Atletico or Borussia, so, with all respect to PSG and Barcelona, their draw is irrelevant to the final game.
