Everyone is rather enjoying watching Boris Johnson squirm. Well, everyone except the BBC perhaps. He has run out of plausibility in the same way Wiley Coyote runs out of ground. Just like the cartoon carnivore, Boris too will now plummet. So, you have to bet on the Conservative Party going into overdrive trying to find a replacement. A quick look at the odds on online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365 and you know lots of people want the job. Just not now.
You can bet on the Conservative Party finding this all a little disappointing. Not Boris’ behavior, they know him, none of this comes as much surprise to them, but the timing. They obviously hoped that the mop-headed muppet could remain in power until the crisis had passed. So when he left he could carry off with him all the government’s sins from these last two years. Unfortunately, his cavalier relationship with the truth means it’s all come to a head too soon. Much too soon.
So, whilst Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gove, and Co all wait in the wings, they hoped to wait longer. None of them are in a hurry to take up the reins of power right now, and one can understand why. However, you can bet on the Conservative Party machine via the 1922 Committee to force someone into the role sooner rather than later. They can’t keep Boris. So now we all pour over the odds on the next Conservative leader at online betting sites in the UK.
Perhaps Take A Punt On That Jeremy Hunt
Most people will tell you the obvious choice is Rishi Sunak. He literally walked away from an interviewer rather than express support for the Prime Minister. Few things in British politics are as damning. Online bookies in the UK will tell you he’s your best bet on the next Conservative leader. Right now, they give him around 11/8. You may think those odds on Rishi Sunak somewhat conclusive. Still, you can bet on Rishi Sunak staying cautious till the balloon goes up.
Next Conservative Leader Odds
- Priti Patel – 25/1
- Sajid Javid – 16/1
- Michael Gove – 16/1
- Penny Mordaunt – 14/1
- Tom Tugendhat – 12/1
- Jeremy Hunt – 13/2
- Liz Truss – 4/1
- Rishi Sunak – 11/8
He doesn’t want to show his hand until entirely necessary. Whilst he’s the presumptive favorite no one is entirely sure how much support he has in the party per se. Yes, he’s very popular, but is that enough? Perhaps not. Some in the party will bet on Liz Truss doing a better job. You can always bet on the Conservative Party to look for a mother substitute when things go wrong. Those who like to bet on politics in the UK at Bet365 however might notice slightly better odds.
Bet365 Has Your Bet On The Conservative Party Leadership
Not shorter. Just better. Jeremy Hunt has bided his time. He now appears to have matured after his turbulent time as Health Minister and kept his nose clean. Yes, people can always say he’s old school, but you can typically bet on the Conservative Party liking that. He could be the safe pair of hands they need after Boris. Just like Labour needed Starmer after Corbyn. Thus, right now you can find a bet on Jeremy Hunt grabbing the leadership going for 13/2. That’s very tempting.
“Nobody warned me it was against the rules.”
- Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister
We are, after all, putting a bet on the Conservative Party. Radical departures are not really their bag. Yes, the odds on Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak are shorter. It’s just Jeremy Hunt is the more conservative option. So, you can expect to see the odds on Jeremy Hunt fall rapidly in the coming days. Of course anyone in the UK gambling laws of common sense will see Jeremy ascend to lead the party back to glory is overly optimistic. After all, who said he wants the job anyway?
