It’s obvious that worsened US-French relations are taking place, but what exactly does this mean for the future of both countries?
Donald Trump hasn’t exactly made himself the most popular man in Europe as of late. Whether it was refusing to shake Angela Merkel’s hand, to his aggressive push past Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic, he’s gaining the reputation as an abrasive bully.
A video surfaced recently of new elected French President Emmanuel Macron and Trump engaged in an awkward, tense handshake, leading many to believe that worsened US-French relations are beginning to develop.
Next week, Trump will officially decide on whether to stick to the Paris Accord. If he decides no, relations between these two nations will likely deteriorate further.
Bet on what France does with Paddy Power
Political novelty bets are becoming more and more popular, and one of the best online sportsbooks in the UK, Paddy Power, is now allowing their members to place bets on what France might do thanks to worsened US-French relations.
One bet that’s available is France asking for the Statue of Liberty back. Obviously this is highly unlikely, but if things get too bad, who knows what could happen. The odds that the French ask for the famous statue back are set at 50/1.
In reality, it seems most likely that the strain between the US and France won’t amount to much. If the US and the EU as a whole get too aggravated, it could lead to some major issues within NATO, but for now it’s likely just angry comments that we’ll experience.
What do you think of the worsened US-French relations? Could they actually make UK gambling news by asking for the State of Liberty back? Tell us what you think in the comment section below, and head to Paddy Power to find more of the best novelty bets of 2017.
