US Authorities Unravel Cock Fighting Scheme in Washington

Cock fighting is illegal in America but there are still a lot of cases where the world’s most ancient spectators’ sport is still practiced underground, mostly for gambling purposes.
The latest case, which made it into the gambling news involve a man, who was visited by representatives from the Washington State Gambling Commission, Thurston County animal control and Thurston County Sheriff’s office.
He was first given a warrant and then arrested under the accusation of performing illegal gambling practices, which involve animal fights. The responsible authorities managed to detain him thanks to the complaints of cock fighting they received.
It was later reported that the Thurston County Animal Services shelter hosted around 250-300 roosters, which were previously residing at the address of the defendant.
More shocking case
In the beginning of the year, there was similar case in New York, when the police stroke a cock-fighting arena, which involved betting breaking US gambling laws.
Nine people involved were arrested and the fantastic number of more than 3,000 cocks was saved from the hostile environment where they were tortured and drugged.
In Washington where the most recent case was resolved, cock fighting is considered a Class C felony, so people found guilty with such chargers, have to pay fines up to $10,000 and even go to jail for up to five years.
