Las Vegas is great, and The Strip alone houses all of the famous casinos. However, not everything is as perfect as it seems from the outside. For every world-class casino in Vegas, we have a failing project. In this article, we decided to collect the top 7 canceled Las Vegas casinos. The reason behind the cancellation is always going to be money.
However, the circumstances might differ for every casino. Some casinos had the money, but there were unfortunate events that led to a full stop on the project. 7. Desert Kingdom – Top 7 Canceled Las Vegas Casinos
Let’s start with one of the most promising titles, with the least impressive results. During the Timeline of Las Vegas casinos, we have seen many wonders built within Nevada’s desert city. Starting from small Inns, these brands grew themselves out into giants which we never could have imagined back then. First, there was the Desert Inn, which was rather successful at the time. Starting in 1993 ITT Sheraton has received a rather large parking lot as property.
They have announced that they are planning to create a Balinese resort. The project has never seen fruition, and over the years, Wynn has acquired the plot. Nowadays, the Wynn stands where the Desert Kingdom was supposed to stand. You can still try to play the old games by registering at MyBookie.ag Casino!
6. Playboy Hotel And Casino
I love Playboy. Ignoring all the controversial things surrounding it, Playboy has always been the greatest brand, especially during the 2000s. Feminists disagree, but if we learn to ignore the man behind the magazine, then we get a stylish black logo, with silver and diamond-plated aesthetics. And this is exactly what draws people in. Their perfume was decent at the time, and the clothes can genuinely look good.
No wonder why Playboy tried to establish itself in the heart of Las Vegas, not knowing that it would be among the top 7 canceled Las Vegas casinos. According to Tripadvisor, there was a Playboy Club, but unfortunately, it also closed. Nowadays we see the Metropolitan Casino where once Playboy was supposed to stand.

5. Wynn West – Top 7 Canceled Las Vegas Casinos
Unlike Playboy, this one was rightfully canceled. The Wynn is one of the top 3 casinos in Vegas. Enjoying large popularity in both LV and Macau, Wynn is dominating the casino market in many different aspects. These things are always positive like they have the best Vegan café, they are the brightest building, and so on. However, there were plans for another Wynn, called the Wynn West.
However, the Steve Wynn allegations hit, and they decided to not pursue future projects, fearing that the lawsuits against Steve Wynn were going to decrease the investment value of Wynn. Perhaps it was the best decision. We still have hope for new projects, as they still own the empty land.
4. Crown Las Vegas
The Crown is a rather controversial brand nowadays. We are not surprised that we must put it at the top 7 canceled Las Vegas casinos. Recently, they have lost their gambling license in Australia, as many call the organization unqualified and unfit to run gambling operations. Pretty interesting. The Crown has always been a brand that tries to sell royalty to people who want royal treatment during their holiday. However, the hotel alone does not give Queen and King values.
According to the Skyscraper Page, the Skyscraper which was supposed to be the Las Vegas Crown ended up getting canceled. After trying for many years, the Crown finally decided to pull out from Las Vegas, trying their luck in Australia. For a while, they were successful, up until recently.

3. World Trade Center
The name for this casino did not age well at all, and maybe it’s best it wasn’t built after all. However, there was an actual connection between the World Trade Center and Las Vegas. They owned a smaller plot, and they planned to build the World Trade Center Casino Hotel. If we have to guess, the concept was to give space for businessmen who travel and want to do a little networking during their business trip, while they are enjoying their off-work time.
This was a promising idea that did not come to fruition. According to the Poker Chip Club, nowadays there is a parking lot where the project was standing. Well, a parking lot works too! After all, we need space for cars too. The WTC Casino is not the worst failed project among the top 7 canceled Las Vegas casinos.
2. Titanic – Top 7 Canceled Las Vegas Casinos
Bob Stupak wanted to build a 400-foot high resort themed after the RMS Titanic in 1999. It was a good idea, with a fit tribute. However, we can also see that it might not be the best for the survivors unless it had a very well-managed opening area that honorably remembered the losses. The resort was supposed to receive 1200 rooms. Stupak’s request to change the zoning was rejected by commissioners.
This way, a hotel section was not allowed to be built. While he had a vision, and started the project, the Las Vegas City Council rejected the idea for reasons unknown. Perhaps they saw an issue with monetizing the memory of the Titanic, and maybe it was just not efficient to sell the former El Rancho Vegas plot. Well, at least we have some of the gambling museums in Las Vegas representing the Titanic sometimes!

1. New Horizon
So, out of all of these failures, what deserves to be the king of the top 7 canceled Las Vegas casinos? Well, The New Horizon Hotel was planned in 1945. It was named after a Nevada Desert Inn originally. Designed by Adrian J. Wilson and Thornton M. Abell, the hotel has received Frank Sinatra as one of the investors. The whole idea was that Frank Sinatra would have included a radio station in the room.
Sinatra would broadcast in this studio. Bing Crosby became an investor as well. However, the resort has faced three lawsuits, and it was canceled. This is probably the greatest project and the greatest failure of all time. So many great names, with such promising ideas.
