A number of candidates are looking to win over Norway’s Liberal Party leadership post, as Skei Grande announced to resign. There are four favorites at Norway’s Liberal Party leader odds, with Abid Raja the most popular candidate.
After serving as the Party leader for ten years, Trine Skei Grande faced a lot of pressure to resign in recent months. In early March 2020, the party’s election committee renominated her to stay in power, but Skei Grande decided to resign only a week later. She stepped down not just as the Party leader, but also as an education minister. As for now, Skei Grande remains the Liberal Party leader until a new election takes place.
According to online sportsbook news sites in Norway, the Liberal Party is small but powerful. It holds eight seats in Parliament and it is a part of the current conservative government coalition. However, the party has been losing a lot of voters and it currently has less than 3 percent of support in Norway. The new leader will be tasked to reinvent the party and win back the confidence of the people. Norway’s Liberal Party leader odds suggest that Sveinung Rotevatn is the top favorite, but Abid Raja is more popular and certainly a fresh face.
Abid Raja has attracted a lot of publicity
Abid Raja has lately served as Skei Grande’s second deputy leader. He has also become the Culture Minister in January after Skei Grande was named Education Minister. In 2017 he was elected as the vice-president of the Parliament after serving four years as a member of Parliament of Akershus. Raja is only the second Muslim to become the vice-president.
The Liberal Party’s fresh face with Pakistani origins has climbed the ladder with a good reputation in civil rights advocacy. He has a master’s degree from Oxford University. Besides, he is very popular and attracts lots of publicity. Thus, Norway’s Liberal Party leader odds indicate Raja might win with a value of 6.5 at 22BET Sportsbook.
Sveinung Rotevatn the biggest political talent in Norway
The 32-year-old Svernung Rotevatn is considered by many the biggest political talent in Norway. He became the Climate and Environment Minister in January, and he was serving as Skei Grande’s first deputy leader. Prior to that, he served as a state secretary from 2018 to 2020. Online sportsbooks in Norway favor Rotevatn to take over the Liberal Party with 1.5 odds.
Guri Melby serves as the Minister of Education
The 39-year-old minister of education since early 2020 Guri Melby has just become the second favorite with 4.74 odds. She has a long term experience in public posts. Between 2013 – 2015 she was the city commissioner for public transport and environmental affairs in Oslo. Prior to that, she served as a member of the city council and a member of the municipal council in Orkdal.
Iselin Nybo has a slim chance
The name of business and trade minister Iselin Nybo has also entered the race with 6.5 odds. Between 2018-2019 she served as Minister of Higher Education. It is hard to see her win against big names such as Raja and Rotevatn, but her chances are still on.
