One of the biggest UFC events of the year goes down this weekend. In this article we take a look at 3 of the biggest MMA fights to bet on.
On April 8th, the UFC returns to Buffalo, New York for the first time in nearly 22 years. In the main event, light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier puts his belt on the line against top ranked contender Anthony Johnson. Before this bout, a number of important matchups will be taking place. In this article we take a look at a few of the best MMA fights to bet on at UFC 210.
Bet on Chris Weidman vs. Gegard Mousasi
UFC 210 betting odds
- Daniel Cormier: 1.90 vs. Anthony Johnson: 1.83
- Chris Weidman: 2.00 vs. Gegard Mousasi: 1.76
- Thiago Alves: 2.35 vs. Patrick Cote: 1.57
- Charles Oliveira: 3.05 vs. Will Brooks: 1.37
In the co-main event of UFC 210, two of the best middleweights in the world will face off in an attempt to earn a shot at the belt. Most online sportsbooks in the US are torn on this one, as both men are extremely well-rounded and are hungry to move up the rankings.
At UFC 162, Chris Weidman shocked the world by knocking out the greatest fighter of all time, Anderson Silva. After a successful title defense against Silva (which ended in a bizarre injury) he took on Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort, winning both fights in impressive fashion. Since the win over Belfort, Weidman has had a tough road, losing two consecutive fights against Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero. His back is against the wall here, but a win could get him back to the belt he once held. Weidman’s odds are set at 2.00.
Gegard Mousasi has been a top fighter for more than a decade. The Dutch kickboxer appears to have turned a corner after a loss to Urijah Hall, winning four straight fights. It seems a foregone conclusion that Mousasi will earn a title shot with a win over Weidman. Intertops lists Mousasi’s odds to win at 1.76.
Bet on Thiago Alves vs. Patrick Cote
There’s a reason this is being call a “throwback fight.” Thiago Alves and Patrick Cote have been competing in MMA since the early 2000’s and are both pushing for one more shot at a championship. Of all the MMA fights to bet on at UFC 210, this one might offer the best odds.
Alves’ career has been plagued by injuries over the years. Since 2012, he’s only fought five times with just two wins. A one-time welterweight title challenger, Alves is now seen as somewhat of a journeyman by many MMA betting experts. Likely due to recent losses, Thiago is a considerable underdog with odds of 2.35, according to Intertops.
Patrick Cote made the move to welterweight in 2013, and has since gone 5-2 win notable wins over Josh Burkman and Ben Saunders. “The Predator” has struggled against the elite level competition, but has a chance to make US gambling news with a win over Thiago Alves. Cote’s odds to win are set at 1.57.
Bet on Charles Oliveira vs. Will Brooks
Kicking off the main card will be an intriguing matchup between two top lightweight fighters. Will Brooks and Charles Oliveira are both coming off tough losses, and the loser may find themselves on the chopping block. This is one of the more exciting MMA fights to bet on, and even betting MMA experts are having a tough time predicting the winner.
Oliveira can be considered a UFC veteran at this point. He’s fought 17 times with the promotion both at lightweight and featherweight. He’s lost his last two fights, and may be fighting for his career against Brooks. Oliveira’s odds to win are set at 3.05.
Will Brooks fought the majority of his career in Bellator MMA, and finally made his UFC debut in July of 2016. In his last fight, he took on Alex Oliveira, who missed weight by more than 5 pounds, and was knocked out in the third round. Nevertheless, Brooks has beaten some of the top fighters in the sport and is a considerable betting favorite here with odds of 1.37.
