The Walking Dead: Gambler’s Edition – Daryl

I guess we can all imagine how the best character in The Walking Dead would act if he lost at slots…
Daryl Dixon is one of the most cherished characters when it comes to this show. He is a racist redneck turned good and is one of the most capable members of the team. He hunts, he tracks, he uses the bow and arrow like a pro and he seldom voices his opinion. When he does, however, he is always frank and realistic. I would love to see him in a casino, although I think he would rather prefer placing bets on horses using online sportsbooks.
• More an outdoors-guy
• He’d love horseracing
• Selfless and hardcore
Coming from a less-than ideal family background, Daryl soon became a central character in the group. At first he wasn’t likable, Rick only kept him in the loop for his amazing survival skills. However, as time passed on, Daryl started to form bonds with some members of the group (like Carol and Beth.) He was a rock to Carol after she lost Sophia, her daughter. Daryl is the kind of person who would break US gambling laws and be thrown into prison to protect his loved ones (of which let’s face it, there aren’t too many…) He’s the guy who has a big heart, but tries with all his might to hide it.
He tried to save Sophia even when all hope is lost
When Sophia, Carol’s daughter disappears, the whole group is in panic. They start looking for her, although deep down, everyone knows that a little girl is the perfect zombie bait. Daryl, however, never gives up hope, he sets out alone to try and find Sophia, with no luck. Here, too, we can see how willing he is to put his life in jeopardy to save a little girl. He’s not your typical “let’s hug it out” guy, but he tries everything to make things right. What’s more, he has the intelligence to change from the person his big brother molded him into. This shows great strength in character. He becomes a kind of silent partner to Rick, who often turns to him for insight.
Daryl is a bit antisocial, which is why I can imagine him playing on mobile betting sites instead of a luxury casino. It would be entertaining, however, to see him walk into such a setting, in his ragged clothes and crossbow on his back, scruffy and silent. He would certainly turn some heads. He would also be rude to most people, especially those who seem to have a lot of money. Eventually, I strongly believe that he would knock someone out. Then sit down at a slot machine and knock back a couple shots of whiskey. He would be the most ideal person to have in a casino in case of a brawl; he would cool down things quickly and effectively.
The group’s G.I. Joe
As to which games he would prefer, well. I sense he would be a fan of online sportsbooks in the US: betting on horses would be his favorite pastime. He would choose based on his vast knowledge on them, not even needing research. He would just choose based on intuition and would win every time. He would need to take a look at each horse, of course, and would immediately make a gut decision. Although he’s not into people in general, he would enjoy the crowd at a racetrack more than being cooped up in a casino; he’s a real outdoors guy.
If the zombie apocalypse dawned on us tomorrow, I wouldn’t worry for a second if Daryl was a friend of mine. He uses the crossbow with accuracy that leads me to believe he could obliterate a fly from afar. He knows how to hunt and how to track. And, regarding that there are no working GPS devices in the apocalypse, it definitely doesn’t hurt to have someone in the group who can navigate. I bet he would be a world-class chef, too, is he was given the chance. Jokes aside, he’s one of the most valuable assets on the team and thanks to his reserved, but selfless, devil-may-care attitude, he’s my favorite.
