Sparkling Backslapping May Play To Few Viewers
The 94th Academy Awards loom hugely on Hollywood’s horizon as it attempts to fit into the new normal. They will draw the usual parade of stars and celebrities, and then bore them for several hours. You can bet on the Oscars to feel too long, appear too self-congratulatory and not really surprise anyone. That’s why lots of people are taking advantage of US gambling laws to put a wager on them. There’s some seriously interesting bets amongst the gratuitous back-slapping.
The Oscars have, one must admit, lost some of their sheen in recent years. All award shows are now a touch suspect, alas. The media swirl and swarm around them just looking for scandals. Of course, just which scandal will raise its head in 2022 is still debatable. Rest assured, however, that if one doesn’t arrive in time, the media will happily make one up. It is, after all, what they do. We expect it of them. Just as we bet on the Oscars following a quite well-trod path as well.
Acceptance speeches, for instance, will, as ever range from the brief to the bizarre. Some winners will shed tears, others will try to make a point. Which you’ll find more cringe-worthy is entirely up to you. However, as the ceremony drags on, at least this year there’s a real competition for the top slot. You may in years now gone have had to dig through the categories to find your bet on the Oscars at online betting sites in the US like Bovada. Not this year. This year it’s simple.
Supporting Roles Make For Interesting Bet On The Oscars
Whilst obviously there are other movies in the running, if you’re going to bet on best picture, it’s really a two horse race. On one side Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast, on the other Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. Which is quite odd, considering you’d probably not spend money to go and see either in the theatre. Both films have met with indifference at the box office, and you can’t really bet on the Oscars themselves to fare much better. Sure, there’s suspense, but it’s a long show.
Best Picture Odds
- Nightmare Alley – 16/1
- Dune – 16/1
- King Richard – 16/1
- Licorice Pizza – 12/1
- The Power of the Dog – 4/1
- West Side Story – 5/2
- Belfast – 2/1
So whilst we wait to see which way the academy jumps on best picture we can watch some of the runaways win. Will Smith is a 4/9 bet on Best Actor with Benedict Cumberbatch his nearest rival way out on 5/1. If you’re going to bet on Best Actress, Kristen Stewart seems a shoo-in getting 4/6 with Lady Gaga off at 7/1 alongside Jessica Chastain. However, a more interesting bet on the Oscars at online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada is definitely the supporting role awards.
Does A Tired Format Turns Off Audiences?
Yes, as a bet on best supporting actress Ariana DeBose is the obvious choice at 6/4. However Catriona Balfe and Kirsten Dunst are right on her shoulder at just 7/2. So, that could go anywhere. As could a bet on best supporting actor. That’s a tricky bet on the Oscars this time round with Ciaran Hinds, Kodi Smith-McPhee and Jared Leto all getting much the same 3/1 prices. So, that’ll create an island of uncertainty for everyone watching before the main event.
Best Supporting Actor Odds
- Jon Bernthal – 16/1
- J K Simmons – 16/1
- Ben Affleck – 14/1
- Richard Jenkins – 10/1
- Jared Leto – 3/1
- Kodi Smit-McPhee – 3/1
- Ciaran Hinds – 3/1
Will that be enough to retain their interest? No one is quite sure. You can bet on the Oscars producers to attempt to ring the changes, but they are somewhat hamstrung. There’s only so much you can do with a series of awards. The viewing audience knows this too, which is why fewer of them watch each year. Still, if you’re tired of the same old bet on sports in the US, Bovada has all the on the Oscars, just don’t bet on it actually entertaining anyone much.
