On February 2018, UK Gambling Commission or UKGC published its annual report on the participation in the gambling sector. In particular, what do the results say about UK online gambling participation in 2017?
The most prominent trend of UK online gambling participation in 2017 is the increase use of mobiles as a gambling platform. 39% of gamblers frequent mobile betting sites and mobile casinos in UK, which is a 10% increase from 2016. Although laptops are the most popular mean of gambling at 50% in 2017, the results show a decreasing trend.
The survey of 1000 random participants also reports that the main reason for a gamble is to win. 46% people responded that way. The second most popular motivation of gambling is for fun and enjoyment, recording at 34%.

Compared to a consistent trend since 2014, there is a 1% increase of adults who have gambled online in the past month. The percentage of British people using online gambling sites in UK is at 18% in 2017. Of these punters, the ratio of men is higher than women.
Young adults and people going into retirement are two groups with the largest increase of UK online gambling participation in 2017. On the other hand, the number of teenagers gambling online decrease shows a 3% decrease from 2016.
