Everyone expects the USA to walk all over Europe at Whistling Straits. Arguably they’ve a far better array of players to pick from. However, the Ryder Cup odds might just adjust a little following Europe’s jaunty win over the US in the Solheim Cup. Perhaps, online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada may think, the men can emulate the ladies. Sure, the odds on Europe may make them look a relatively poor bet on the Ryder Cup this year. But everything is relative, right?
“Ole! Ole-ole-ole! Ole! Ole! Ole-ole-ole!” Europe’s Solheim Cup team celebrated their superb win by impersonating soccer fans. They chanted loudly, they bounced vigorously. They sang choruses of appropriate songs. The visitors won 15-13 after a rollercoaster final round of singles, making Catriona Matthew the only European captain to win twice. Captain Padraig Harrington, looking at odds on the Ryder Cup, would settle for just once. He’ll have a tough time copying them.
“Winning on American soil wasn’t easy.” Admitted Catriona Matthew. She knows that final round could have gone either way oh so easily. However under pressure the US team wilted, and Padraig will hope the same can happen at Whistling Straits. Not that the Ryder Cup odds give him much reason for optimism. Online betting sites in the US like Bovada currently give the visitors just 15/8. Still the odds on the Ryder Cup do favor the US to an almost alarming degree.
Solheim Cup Team Shows Europe The Way To Do It
Alarming for their European opponents, but even more so for the Americans themselves. They carry the weight of expectations on their shoulders. Steve Stricker will thus look at the 4/7 a lot of online bookies in the US are giving them and wince. Sure, you can bet on the USA to have the better team – at least on paper, just don’t bet on Europe to care. They simply don’t have to. No one expects miracles. Europe unlike the US don’t have to bet on the Ryder Cup

So the Europeans enjoy the role of plucky underdog, and the esprit de corps that this bring. The US don’t. They’ll desperately try to have some team cohesion, but that in of itself will be a big ask. As those of you who regularly bet on sports in the US at Bovada, and bet on golf in particular, will know, some of the US team don’t like each other. Like at all. Whilst Harrington has to stave off despair, Stricker can bet on the Ryder Cup involving a small civil war of sorts.

Of course, the odds on the USA losing just because of the rift between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are long. However, you’d need a bizarre sort of courage to believe it couldn’t contribute. We’ve seen the US team melt down before. However, it’ll take more than disharmony to allow Harrington’s side to beat those odds on Europe at the bookies. As Catriona pointed out, winning on US soil isn’t easy, that’s why the US are the better bet on the Ryder Cup.
“A dream come true.”

Now of course there is a third option. A draw. You can bet on the Ryder Cup coming out even at 11/1 at bookies like Bovada. Naturally one would have to be a little brave to take up the odds on a draw. However, US gambling laws don’t differentiate between the canny and the crazy. So if you feel it apt – go for it. Just keep two things in mind. First draws are exceedingly rare in this competition, and second, the USA are going to walk all over Europe at Whistling Straits.
