It seems that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is looking for the best contract in the NFL indeed.
Russell Wilson rejected a Seattle Seahawks contract offer around USD 21 million per year, according to mobile betting news. The Super Bowl winning QB revealed that he has set a deadline for the new contract to be agreed on. If there is no deal before the training camp begins later this week, he will play the 2015 season under his current USD 1.5 million per annum contract.
There is a significant difference, however his agent, Mark Rodgers clearly wants the Russell Wilson contract to top the league. If the player doesn’t get that kind of deal this summer, he expectedly will be paid next year by the Seahawks – or another franchise. Currently Green Bay Packer’s Aaron Rodgers is the highest paid player in the league who is on a five-year-long contract that worth USD 110 million, which is USD 22 million per annum.
The Russell Wilson contract won’t be cheap for the Seahawks
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed the report about a contract offer around USD 21 million per year that made the news and gained attention amongst punters who bet on sports in the US. It was also reported that the Russell Wilson contract offer submitted by the Seahawks included less up-front money than USD 20 million. Cam Newton and Matt Ryan, two of the four NFL players on a contract that worth more than USD 20.5 million a year, both received at least USD 30 million up front.
Regarding that, it is reasonable from Russell and co. to turn down Seattle’s offer. Andy Dalton was paid USD 18.1 million up front, online betting experts point out, however Wilson is on another level. It is understandable that he wants a more lucrative deal. Aaron Rodgers’ 2013 contract guaranteed him money worth 17.9% of the actual salary cap. The cap rose since 2013 from USD 123 million to USD 143.3 million, so the same chunk would mean USD 25.6 million, which is far less than the offered USD 21 million.
