RG3’s release may ultimately see the decline of the star quarterback.
NFL quarterback RG3’s release is being considered by the Washington Redskins organization. Robert Griffin III (nicknamed RG3) suffered another concussion some time ago which has sidelined him. It becomes painstakingly clear to fans and mobile betting players that RG3 will no longer continue as starting quarterback. What has put the Redskin’s organization in disarray is what to do with RG3 now?
• RG3 is guaranteed a salary of USD 16.1 million while injured
• Griffin was the first quarterback for Baylor to receive the Heisman Trophy
• RG3 was the first player in all four major sports to wear roman numerals
Washington’s efforts to trade RG3 to another franchise has been met with little avail. Much of the core to this controversy is a stipulation in Griffin’s contract that guarantees him USD 16.1 million for this year if he’s injured. Since he hasn’t been cleared by the NFL to play again, Washington hasn’t decided whether to keep him. If RG3 gets the “green light” to play and is injured again, another injury could guarantee the quarterback an additional USD 16.1 million for next year. Let’s look at what the fuss is about.
RG3’s release might mark the fall of a great college player
Robert Griffin III was born in Okinawa, Japan to two parents who were sergeants in the U.S. Army in 1990. After returning to the U.S., Griffin’s family eventually moved to Copperas Cove, Texas. Young RG3 grew up as a natural athlete interested in a wide range of sports. While attending Copperas Cove High School, he excelled in basketball, football and track. As the star quarterback, he passed for 3,357 yards and ran for 2,161.
Although he failed to lead his team into the Class 4A Division I state championship, he was named by Rivals website the fourth best dual-threat quarterback in the nation. In track, RG3 was the number one high school hurdler in the country. At the 110-meter high hurdles, Griffin was ranked the fifth best in the World for athletes under 18. Having his pick of several top programs, RG3 chose the University of Houston. Soon the coach left for University of Baylor and young Griffin would follow.
RG3’s release from Washington was a lifetime away as the star freshman quarterback was not only an excellent track acquisition for Baylor, but an accomplished scholar who ranked 7th in his class and was also the class president. During his freshman year, young Griffin received Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year honors, however a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament kept him out of most of his sophomore season.
Griffin recovered and finished the next season with a 7-6 record, but had yet to turn the heads of those who bet on sports in the US. 2011 proved to be the pinnacle of RG3’s college career as he turned around a Baylor team whom many expected would perform poorly. Griffin led Baylor to a 67-56 victory over Washington Huskies which was the highest scoring regulation NCAA football game. The future NFL quarterback won the coveted Heisman Trophy and graduated with a Bachelors degree in political science.
The professional years leading up to RG3’s release
The Heismann trophy winner garnered much attention from NFL scouts and ended up being the number two pick in the draft. Although the St. Louis Rams chose RG3, they quickly traded him to the Washington Redskins where he signed a four-year USD 21.1 million contract. The rookie quarterback became the first player in the NFL, NHL, NBA and America’s national sport the MLB, to have roman numerals on the back of his jersey. The quarterback sensation secured NFL Rookies of the Week and Month honors.
Later that year, RG3 received a mild concussion while playing against the Atlanta Falcons and was cleared to play in the next game. The quarterback sensation made US gambling news after he threw for 200 yards, completing four touchdowns and rushed 75 yards. As a result he became the youngest player in league history to secure a perfect passer rating in a game. A LCL and ACL injuries acquired earlier in the season resulted in knee surgery at the end of the season.
In 2013 there was much speculation on whether or not RG3 would play in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Losing the game, Griffin soon failed to perform as well as he did his first season. Apart from one game against the Chicago Bears where he passed for 298 yards making two touchdowns, statistically Griffin was insufficient. Redskin head coach Mike Shanahan benched him for the last three games of the season.
The move by the coach last season was to prevent further injury, unfortunately in the second week of the new season RG3 suffered a dislocated ankle. Although Griffin was ok to play in the next game, the Redskins would lose their next three games. Soon RG3 was replaced by Colt McCoy. After suffering a neck injury, Griffin was forced to come in and he saved the game throwing for 220 yards. Unfortunately, the Redskins finished their season in the bottom of their division.
