It was a sight to see. The Kings XI Punjab had put 223 on the board. That’s not a total any team has successfully chased down in the IPL. Ever. No one who usually puts a bet on sports in India would have backed the Royals to win at that point. It looked hopeless. However, displaying a calm determination Steve Smith’s team struck back. In the dying overs, they took the tiring team opposite to task and instantly changed the odds on the 2020 IPL. But does that mean they’ll win?

The odds on the 2020 IPL have shifted hugely in this first portion of the play. The promise of pre-season hype put to the test. In some cases teams haven’t lived up to their capacity, others have surpassed it. The Rajasthan Royals, for instance, began the Tournament at 15/2. Steve Smith was rusty, their team quite young, perhaps too inexperienced. The bookies like Bet365 only ranked the Kings XI Punjab at a longer price. 10/1. It now looks they were wrong on both those counts.

The Kings XI Punjab put up a good total with Agarwal getting century and Rahul piling on 69. That should have been enough to win. Easily. No team had ever chased down the 223 they put on the board. Apparently, no one told the Royals. In the last five overs, they added 86 runs, a record in of itself. Their eventual win a testament to tail-enders everywhere. They knew the odds on the 2020 IPL at online betting sites in India like Bet365 were against them. They didn’t appear to care.

Tewatia Steadies Himself To Play A Blinder

Rahul Tewatia was the headline stealer. He began getting only 8 from 19 balls. Then revived his entire team’s chances. In the 18th over he battered Sheldon Cottrell all over the park. He got five sixes in that single over and was on 53 when they dismissed him. That amazing performance set the scene. Those after him with no choice but to battle against those odds on the 2020 IPL. Perhaps that’s what saw Jofra Archer get a creditable 13 and Tom Curran the vital 4 that won it.

Bet On The 2020 IPL

  • Hyderabad Sunrisers – 10/1
  • Kings XI Punjab – 9/1
  • Chennai Super Kings – 15/2
  • Rajasthan Royals – 11/2
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore – 6/1
  • Kolkata Knight Riders – 6/1
  • Delhi Capitals – 9/2
  • Mumbai Indians – 15/4

The odds on the 2020 IPL thus changed in an instant. The Royals swiftly moved up to an 11/2 chance to win the trophy, and even the Punjab got a boost to 9/1. This is in marked contrast to the fortunes of other teams. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, for instance, have had a mare of a time. Back to back losses have seen their price at Bet365 and other online sportsbook sites in India dip. It traveled from a decent enough 5/1 all the way back to 10/1 today. That’s a major fall from grace.

Whilst they’re the only team to still be winless, there are other teams displaying as much discomfort. The Chennai Super Kings have slid back to 15/2. After coming so close to the big win last year people expected more of them. It hasn’t happened. However, as time moves on the length of this tournament could see their team outlast other less broadsides. That bet on the Chennai Super Kings may still prove a winner if they find their stride again soon. They may not.

“It was a matter of one six. After that, I got going.”

  • Rahul Tewatia (No.4 Batsman For Rajasthan Royals)

Not that a bet on the Rajasthan Royals looks particularly attractive even at those odds. Sure they put on a show, but then a bet on the Mumbai Indians is going for 15/4 at Bet365. Their steady play signposting another good season for them. So if you are going to take advantage of Indian gambling laws to take up some of the odds on the IPL 2020, just remember, record-breaking is fun to watch, but it won’t win the trophy. This is a marathon of cricket, not a sprint to glory.
