Who is believed to win the Australian GP in 2024?
Get ready for the third race weekend of the season with a preview for Australian GP 2024. Predictably, Verstappen is in the lead while Perez and Leclerc fall behind, but what about the rest of the pack? Learn everything you need to know about the Grand Prix, from favorites to previous race results.
Preview for Australian GP 2024 for all teams
The previous race in Saudi Arabia only proved the inevitable truth. Red Bull will surely dominate the season just as they did in 2022 and 2023. Max Verstappen won both races, with Sergio Perez finishing second in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Both of them were won with a good 10-20-second gap to the third-place finishers, both of whom were Ferrari drivers.
It is absolutely possible that Max will win all of the races this season unless he performs really badly in Singapore, which seems to be his kryptonite – he has never won a race at Marina Bay. However, his success may be absolute this time, according to online sportsbooks in Australia.
Ferrari has a good pace in both qualifying and race. Moreover, the team fixed the issues with tyre degradation that they suffered last year. Ollie Bergman finished 7th in a car he had never driven in. It only shows that this years’ car made by Maranello is good. Ferrari is good on various tracks since Sakhir and Jeddah are similar only in terms of nighttime races: different asphalt traction, tyre wear, nature of the track, and sets of turns. Ferrari might look good on any circuit.
Mercedes, just like last year, is a work-in-progress at the moment, trying to figure out how to improve the car. Their results at Sakhir and Jeddah were too far off the leaders, Red Bull and Ferrari. While George Russell visibly tries to perform to the best of his abilities, it seems that Lewis Hamilton cannot wait for his Ferrari departure. Will it jeopardize Mercedes’ season?
McLaren and Aston Martin’s pace was above expectations. Alonso and Piastri had an excellent race, finishing 5th and 4th. Piastri’s race could have been even better having he overtaken Hamilton earlier while the latter was on old medium tyres. His teammate, Lando Norris, had a decent race but lost out due to McLaren’s decision to split the strategy between their two drivers. If Norris had also pitted, he likely would have finished 5th instead of Alonso. Alonso had a perfect race despite Aston’s general lack of racing pace.
Haas’s strategy to hold the pack by penalising Magnussen for his teammate Hulkenberg to get 10th is worth noting. Several drivers criticized it despite being technically not against the rules. Magnussen showed himself as a genuine team player in this race and improved the odds at online gambling sites in Australia.
2024 Australian Grand Prix betting odds
The Australian Grand Prix will take place on March 24th, 2024, and most probably, the Red Bulls will again win it by a long margin from anyone else. However, who will prevail is a question, although Verstappen’s chances are much higher by default. Perez’s chances for the title depend entirely on him and whether he is ready to go all-in against Max. Compared to last season, though, it is less likely that Sergio will win a race this year.
Melbourne’s Albert Park is a mid-high-downforce track that affects tyre degradation on a larger level than Jeddah, closer to Sakhir. It is safe to assume that we will see a Red Bull 1-2, a battle for the third-place Ferrari drivers, and fights for the remaining positions between Mercedes, McLaren, and Aston Martin.
