Online betting has become a booming business in Spain, thanks to world sports events like the FIFA World Cup tournament.
Online sports betting booms in Spain thanks to highly publicized sports events such as the FIFA World Cup Football tournament held in Brazil this year. This was confirmed recently in Spanish gambling news by the country’s regulator, Direccion General de Ordenacion del Juego.
Online betting revenues soared in the third quarter of 2014 to EUR 62 million. Of this amount, online sports betting accounted for almost a half. The total amount of all online sports gambling skyrocketed to EUR 700 million.
For the 19 per cent increase in overall sales compared to last year, Spain has several sports mobile betting companies to thank. They include Bet365 that accounted for a half of all online sports profits. Not to be outdone are poker stars and 888 who raked in 9/10 of all poker revenues.
Overall, online poker accounted for a total of EUR 528 million in revenues, a 9 percent sales hike, compared to that of 2013. Online bets on sports tournaments increased by 39 percent but mobile cash games decreased by 11 percent.
Spain’s online casino revenues went up by 5 percent from last year. However it nose-dived back down to 7 percent by summer 2014. This, mainly caused by the Spanish government tardiness in approving slot action, that would affect the market, more than likely, in a positive way.
