In efforts to introduce more gaming operators to the Swedish market, some officials have voiced their opinion of introducing a revised system to facilitate that plan.

The current government has come under some heavy criticism for the way it has dealt with the Swedish gambling laws in recent times. The leadership decided to refer its gaming policies to the European Court of Justice by the European Commission, which has propelled a fierce response from an opposition official Gustav Hoffstedt, as he believes that the government should be doing more to open a regulated gaming market.

MP Hoffstedt, who represent the Moderate Party, gave his agenda to the parliament which stipulated that the government ought to make a shift from its indefensible monopolistic policies regarding online gambling and in fact introduce a more open system. The revised plan aims to welcome open licensing and regulatory system allowing other gaming providers access to the nation’s market which has so far been reserved for state-run operators.

Sweden misses out a great deal with the current system

Hoffstedt indicated current results show that many Swedish residents visit offshore sites which are in effect out of the sphere of influence and economic benefits of the country. This makes the Scandinavian country lose quite a great deal of money as it goes out of Sweden and into the hands of foreign entities. In addition, the state-owned Svenska Spel is not performing on the level as it was originally predicted which calls all the more for action.

The new developments seen with the European Commission have called for a need of changes which could potentially lead to a wide scope of advantageous offerings. Hoffstedt also highlighted that many mobile casino sites were originally Swedish, however due to the restrictions set by the laws, the companies have had to more out of the country to offer their services.
