Niki Lauda’s career start: From Formula 2 to Ferrari

Niki Lauda best moments in F1 started with another popular car racing competition at online sportsbooks in Austria, Formula 2. Yes, Lauda launched his career as a professional race driver in second-tier competition and drove two seasons for March, who also had a Formula 1 team. Niki Lauda won his first Formula 1 World Championship with Ferrari in 1975. One of the most dramatic moments in Lauda’s career occurred at the Nürburgring during the 1976 season. He suffered a horrific crash that left him with severe burns and injuries. At some point, Lauda’s fate was so uncertain that a priest gave him the last rites. Miraculously, he returned to racing just six weeks later, demonstrating incredible determination and resilience.

To the Tiffosi joy, Lauda finished 4th at Monza and Hunt DNF-d. At the last race of the season at Fuji, Lauda was leading Hunt in the championship by 3 points, but due to dangerous conditions, according to Lauda himself, he retired from the race. Hunt finished 3rd and took the 1976 title.

Second Title, Pause, and Comeback with McLaren

One of Niki Lauda best moments in F1 was the second World Championship title in 1977, again driving for Ferrari. Despite the lingering effects of his injuries from the previous year, he displayed immense courage and skill throughout the season. 

After leaving Ferrari at the end of 1977, Lauda briefly retired from Formula 1 racing. However, he made a sensational comeback in 1982, joining the McLaren team and proving that he had kept his competitive edge.

In one of the most thrilling seasons in Formula 1 history, Lauda secured his third World Championship title in 1984, driving for McLaren. The championship battle between him and his teammate Alain Prost went down to the wire, with Lauda emerging victorious by just half a point. Lauda retired from Formula 1 for the second time at the end of the 1985 season, assisting Alain Prost in winning his first title. He left behind a lasting legacy as one of the sport’s greatest drivers, known for his skill, intelligence, and determination both on and off the track.
