The Associated Press news agency announce the New York state Senate have backed the proposal to install video lottery terminals, in various airports throughout the state.
Americans traveling out of the country from the state now won’t need to rely on mobile casinos to get their gambling fix before arriving home.
Video betting terminals will give gamblers a chance to test their luck before leaving the US.
The machines are intended to be located inside departure terminals in certain New York airports which meet certain criteria regarding local populations.
City size counts
The Senate said the gaming terminals would only be introduced in international airports located within a city of one million or more.
Operating under these guidelines would mean that slot machines would be located in John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.
Unfortunately, Buffalo Niagara International Airport, Albany International Airport and Syracuse Hancock International Airport are likely to miss out.
The move seems bold considering the strict US gambling laws, which only permits serious gambling in certain states. However, laws have been gradually more liberalized with certain types of ’soft’ gambling becoming legalized.
For the time being, commercial gambling and casinos are still banned in the state.
