Netherlands online sports betting has received approval from the Dutch government, but the market will be highly regulated and have limitations imposed.
In Netherlands gambling news, online sports wagering has been approved by the Dutch coalition parties on the condition that it is subject to regulations and limitations. Dutch news outlet the NLTimes says that the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the Labour Party (PvdA) are keen on banning Netherlands online sports betting on certain types of sports events.
The two types that they are focusing on outlawing are easily manipulated sports events, such as a red card in football, as well as amateur and friendly matches. They wish to ban the latter because they believe that players are “more susceptive to bribery and match fixing” when they participate in non-paying games, or ones in wish there are paid little.
The KNVB is cool with a regulated Netherlands online sports betting market
The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) approves of the proposed bans on certain types of online sportsbooks in Netherlands games. A representative of the KNVB stated that: “The important thing is that not criminals, but players on the field, determine how the match plays out.”
Now that it has received a thumbs up from both the Dutch government and the KNVB, the regulated Netherlands online sports betting market is expected to be introduced to the country through the 2017 Remote Gaming Bill.
