The Oakland Raiders and Houston Texans are set to face off in a couple days. Let’s take a look at the Monday Night Football betting odds set by Intertops.
If three years ago you told a hardcore NFL fan that the Oakland Raiders would be one of the top ranking teams in the NFL 11 weeks into the 2016-17 season, they would have laughed at you. For nearly a decade Oakland has struggled to find any success, with 7 different head coaches since 2004. They stared to turn a corner in 2015 under the leadership of Jack Del Rio, and with a current record of 7-2 this season, many in the Raider Nation feel this could be the year they win the Super Bowl.
The Texans will also be heading into Monday’s game with confidence. They are leading the AFC South with a record of 6-3. Their most notable victory came against the Detroit Lions in week 8. The Texans have perhaps the best defense in the entire league thanks to standout stars Jonathan Joseph and Whitney Mercilus. These two players are a key reason why the Monday Night Football betting odds set by online sportsbooks in the US are as close as they are this week.
While the Texans will clearly hold the advantage defensively, their offensive capabilities cannot compare to the Raiders. QB Derek Carr has been nothing short of phenomenal this season, with 2,505 yards and 17 touchdowns. Houston, meanwhile, has been struggling on offense, and is one of just four teams in the NFL to not allow a 300 yard passer this season.

What this comes down to is offense vs. defense. Can Derek Carr continue his passing dominance against a team with such a strong rushing game? Intertops certainly seems to think so. The Oakland raiders are the Monday Night Football betting odds favorite at -260. The Texans are coming in with a lot to prove, and are the NFL betting underdogs with odds of +220.
