Toronto is seeking to attract a multi-billion casino resort development.
MGM Resorts, a major player in the gambling entertainment industry, is seeking to invest as much as $6 million into a casino development project in the Toronto area.
The company is seeking to develop a modern entertainment complex to attract those who rather play online casino in Canada than visit a land-based complex.
Currently, the talks involve a Toronto mayor interested in the opportunity. The area around Toronto is in fact one of the most densely populated areas of Canada, if the word ”dense” can be used.
The project intends to build hotels, spas, restaurants, and convention centers to make the casino gambling experience more like a vacation. In fact, the company claims it isn’t interested in a small project, and seeks to offer a wide variety of games such as slots, blackjack, poker, roulette, baccarat, craps, and others.
This move seeks to profit from Canadian gambling laws which don’t allow for online gambling to take place within the country and, as an outcome, no online casino licenses in Canada were issued to private companies, although British Columbia has its own online gambling offering controlled by the provincial government.
Other provinces are moving into the gambling market, such as Manitoba, which now seeks to copy British Colombia’s success. Moreover, Ontario is liberalizing gambling regulations to allow for casino resort investments. But, there is nothing happening when it comes to allowing private enterprises enter the online gambling market in Canada.
Nevertheless, the Canadian players still seek opportunites at offshore poker rooms or via mobile gambling devices. As studies project, Internet-based gaming will continue to grow.
