One of the biggest fights in UFC history has just been announced, and already the McGregor vs. Alvarez betting lined have been set.
Ever since the UFC announced their debut event at Madison Square Garden in NYC, speculation was high over who would headline the show. Fans and analysts knew it would have to be a high-profile bout. For a time, it was expected to be the card in which Ronda Rousey would stage her comeback, but those plans were scrapped after Dana White made US gambling news by announcing Ronda needed more time to prepare.
Finally, after months of waiting, the UFC announced that Conor McGregor would be challenging Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title. In many ways, this is the biggest fight the UFC could have put on. McGregor has established himself as the biggest star in the sport, and has a chance to make history by being the first fighter to hold two belts at once if he can get back Alvarez.
Not long after the fight was announced, Bovada set the McGregor vs. Alvarez betting lines, and it’s the Irishman that is entering as the betting favorite. This makes sense considering McGregor has had an almost perfect UFC run, and is finally competing at the weight class that most feel will be the best for his body.
What are the McGregor vs. Alvarez betting lines currently at?
Right now, Conor McGregor is the -140 favorite to the get the victory. Alvarez enters in at +100, despite holding the experience and size advantage. One of the major reasons Alvarez is the underdog here is likely due to his lackluster path to the title. After suffering a defeat in his UFC debut, Alvarez won two straight fights by extremely narrow split decisions over Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez to earn a shot at Rafael dos Anjos for the belt.
He took full advantage of that opportunity by knocking out the champion in the first round. McGregor’s stellar UFC run has likely pushed him as the McGregor vs. Alvarez betting lines favorite, as he only lost once inside the octagon and avenged that defeat by beating Nate Diaz in the rematch this past August.
