Mazda will become the new La Liga main sponsor as BBVA decided to quit sponsoring Spanish football league due to strategic reasons.
Liga BBVA ceases to exist, at least its name surely will, due to BBVA’s decision to make an exit from football world at the end of the season. However, the new La Liga main sponsor has already been found. Javier Tebas, President of the Spanish Football Association (LFP), will sign the contract with Mazda during the third week of October. This contract will guarantee that Mazda will give its name to La Liga, starting from next season.
The Japanese company has announced on its website that they have become official sponsors of Liga BBVA in the beginning of this season. Back then, online gambling sites in Spain would have set pretty high odds for Mazda becoming the new La Liga main sponsor in less than a year. Mazda logos will be seen in stadiums, on online platforms and social networks in connection with Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante during the season 2015/16 due to this agreement and after the end of the season, the Championship will be La Liga Mazda.
La Liga main sponsor BBVA was unsatisfied with the league’s cooperation
BBVA and La Liga says farewell to each other in a peaceful way as both parties have decided it’s for the best for both of them. According to the official reason, BBVA aims to focus on digital services to match the global changes. However, according to certain sources of El Confidencial, the real reason for not renewing the contract is because “the bank was not satisfied with the use of its brand on television.”
The most successful Spanish bank has been the La Liga main sponsor ever since the season 2008/2009. La Liga’s name has been Liga BBVA since then and the change will surely be strange at first, after 7 years of constancy. We will see in the future how the name change will affect online sportsbooks in Spain, however, the two Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona will still be regarded as title favorites.
