After completing a number of successful summer signing and offering long-term contracts to star players, City have high hopes of retaining title.
Sacking Roberto Mancini has paid out for Manchester City last year, as new Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini succeeded to win the Premier League in his first season in charge. Towards the end of last season they were fighting neck and neck with Liverpool, but managed to prevail and claim the trophy.
Instead of only buying marquee signings, Manuel Pellegrini has opted to be frugal and buy wisely. Players like Lescott and Garcia have left the club with some other on their way out as well. City splashed out GBP 32 million for Porto defender Mangala, in order to boost their already impressive team for the upcoming season.
City are keeping hold of current crop of stars
Midfield genius David Silva and defensive wall Vincent Kompany have recently signed contract extensions, while some other players are soon to follow suit. Keeping their best players will help City challenge for top prizes and will definitely work in their favor throughout the long and arduous season.
Their hopes of retaining the title next season are considerable and mobile betting provider Bet365 puts them right behind favorites Chelsea, with odds of 3.25 (9/4).
