The new world No1, American Nelly Korda is the top favorite ahead of Ko
The fourth major women’s golf tournament of the season, the 2021 Amundi Evian Championship, is held this week, between 22-25 July in Evian-les-Bains, in France. The winner of the previous major, American Nelly Korda is the top favorite in the LPGA The Evian Championship odds. But the 2019 champion, Jin Young Ko and other top 10 players can also win the event.
The Evian Championship returns to the LPGA schedule after a year break due to the cancellation of last year’s event. The first tournament was held at the Evian Resort Golf Club in 1994 as a major in the Ladies European Tour. Then in 2000 it became a part of the LPGA Tour as a non-major tournament. Until 2013 when it joined the list of major events with an increased purse. It is now the fourth major women’s golf tournament of the season, with most top players taking part in it. In spite of the Olympic Games and its golf event on the 4-7 August, top US and South Korean players will compete in France. Including defending champion Jin Young Ko and world ranking leader Nelly Korda.
LPGA The Evian Championship odds favor world ranking leader Korda
Nelly Korda won her first major tournament, the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship last month in Atlanta. She has been in top form all season and truly deserved her first major victory. Now the 22-year-old can continue her winning streak in France. With online sportsbooks in the US offering the smallest odds, +900 for her victory. Even though Korda only finished T25 here in 2019 in her second appearance. But now as the new world ranking leader she has a great chance for a much better result.
Korda took over the world No1 spot from Jin Young Ko, who is the defending champion of this event. The South Korean golfer won her second major tournament here two years ago in her breakthrough season. This season Ko hasn’t been as convincing. She only finished T46 in the PGA Championship but she did manage to win her 8th LPGA Tour title in Texas last month. Ko also has five top-10 finishes this season which makes her another favorite. Her odds to win her third major title here is +1000.00 according to the LPGA The Evian Championship odds.
Other major winners are also in the favorites
Inbee Park has also won the Evian Championship once, back in 2012 when the event wasn’t a major yet. It doesn’t change the fact though that Park can perform well here. Just like she did in this year’s Kia Classic in March where she got her 21st LPGA Tour victory. But the experienced player also finished in the top 10 in the first two majors of the season. Park has seven major titles so far and managed to win everywhere except this course. So surely she will aim for a win now with the odds of +1400.00 to do so.
Online gambling sites in the US also mention another former winner, Lydia Ko in the favorites with the odds of +2200.00. The New Zealand golfer won her first major title here back in 2015. And she has been performing well on the course ever since. Other former winners of the event include Swedish Anna Nordqvist and American Angela Stanford whose victories would be a huge surprise now. Unlike Ariya Jutanugarn’s win who has been in great form all season. The Thai golfer won the previous LPGA Tour event in Michigan last weekend which was her 12th victory. The two-time major winner finished fifth here in 2019. Now she has the odds of +1800.00 to win the tournament on BetOnline.
