The England international’s contract expires with Manchester City, and Liverpool needed an experienced midfielder.
James Milner will get around GBP 150,000 per week at Liverpool, gambling news report. He virtually took a pay-cut by joining the Merseyside outfit, as City handed him an offer to renew his contract last summer about GBP 165,000 per week, however the 29-year-old midfielder refused to sign the paper.
Milner was seeking more playing time, as he hardly had a shot at securing himself a starting position with Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas and David Silva all in the squad at City. His other problem was that Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini used him either as an outside midfielder or a winger, though his preferred position is in the heart of the midfield.
The new captain of Liverpool?
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers needed an experienced central midfielder after the exit of club legend Steven Gerrard, who continues his career at Los Angeles Galaxy. Rodgers was reassured in his role recently, after speculations appeared in recent weeks about the possible assignment of either Carlo Ancelotti or Jurgen Klopp – online sportsbooks ranked them as the most likely candidates for a vacant managerial position at Anfield.
It was important for Milner to confirm that Rodgers will stay at Liverpool, according to mobile betting news. Milner, who played at Leeds, Newcastle and Aston Villa before joining City in 2010, is expected to become the new team captain of Liverpool. Previously it was speculated that 24-year-old vice-captain Jordan Henderson will get the armband, however it is more likely that the young midfielder will keep his current deputy status.
