The legality of online poker in New York will officially be decided this upcoming June, according to a number of recent reports.
For years, certain lawmakers in the state of New York have been calling for the legalization of online poker. Assemblyman Gary Pretlow introduced an online poker bill this past February, and claimed he “didn’t see too much opposition” on the horizon.
That statement will soon be tested, as the state’s legislative session will conclude on June 21st. Most poker betting experts agree the legality of online poker in New York will not be given an official ruling until June, as the state will need to figure out how to add this new industry into their budget.
For internet poker in New York to get passed, lawmakers will need to make some changes to their state constitution, which clearly states that it’s illegal to wager money on games of chance.
