Legal DFS in Hawaii can be a reality soon as the state is expected to alter its radically strict gambling laws.
Bills were proposed in the federal state in order to create legal DFS in Hawaii as well as regulated lottery market. US gambling laws in Hawaii are the strictest amongst the federal states together with Utah. These two states don’t have any form of legal gambling.
Legal DFS in Hawaii can happen if operators can be audited
According to the new bills, legal DFS in Hawaii can happen, if the operators agree on a yearly audit by the state authorities. They should pay a legal registration fee of $25,000, US gambling news report.
Democratic Representative John Mizuno was very open about the bill that he co-introduced. He said, “We’re all realists here; people gamble everywhere. So if we can regulate it properly and benefit from it — get some of the proceeds to help our most needy — then at the end of the day it’s a win-win.”
Lawmakers also made an effort this year to create a state lottery to fund homeless people in Hawaii. Mizuno said, “The Powerball created a lot of interest, and the timing was impeccable — it happened right before the start of the legislative session. Everything collided to have the perfect opportunity to bring this issue up.”
