Argentine journalist Leo Farinella thinks that the captain just can’t walk indifferently on the field while his teammates are fighting for the victory.

Argentina lost another final on Saturday, as La Albiceleste was defeated by the host nation Chile on penalties in the final of the 2015 Copa America. This means that Argentina lost two major finals in 12 months after Lionel Messi and co. were beaten by Germany last summer in the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup through an overtime goal from Mario Gotze.

As fans, pundits and those who bet on sports in Argentina are looking for those who are responsible for the latest letdown, Leo Farinella thinks that the main reason behind the loss is a bad decision of former Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino. Farinella argues that he shouldn’t have given the captaincy to Messi instead of Javier Macherano, who is a more natural leader, online betting news report.

Farinella: Messi doesn’t deserve Argentina captaincy

Farinella wrote, ”The team failed to live up to the final. Mainly Lionel Messi who was walking on the pitch while daydreaming. It is time to start working hard and to form a team that reflects Javier Mascherano’s picture. The captain’s armband is on the wrong man. It was enough. The best player of the world fails to represent and to lead the team in the most important moments.”

Farinella thinks that Messi’s performance was disappointing in the final, as well as his body language. He added, “Of course there are those days when nothing works out, and there are others, when everything works. However the team captain just can’t walk on the field thinking while his teammates are giving everything to achieve their collective goal.” Messi also let down those mobile betting players, who wagered on his goal in the final.
