It is the film adaptation of Broadway musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda
-
The film tells the story of a Latin American neighborhood with lots of dance and singing
One of the most anticipated films of the year is the film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical, called In the Heights. Jon M. Chu directed the feel-good movie of the summer with great music and storyline. Due to its previous success in the theaters, bookmakers already offer you the chance to make In the Heights special bets. Where you can predict the film’s future at next year’s main film awards.
Lin-Manuel Miranda has become world famous after writing the script, music and lyrics for big-hit Broadway musical Hamilton. Which tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, who was one of the American Founding Fathers. Miranda used hip-hop in his production, creating a very unique experience for the audience. Hamilton won several awards including the Best Musical Tony Award in 2016. In the Heights is actually Miranda’s earlier work made in 2008, which also won the same award. And brought a nomination for its creator in the Best Actor category. Now this musical has been made into a film and will make its debut this month. For this occasion, bookmakers are already offering different options to make a bet on. Let’s see the most interesting ones.
In the Heights special bets predict Oscar nomination
Even though the film will be only released this week, there is already a buzz about In the Heights thanks to its cast and previous successes at the theaters. The first option from In the Heights special bets is to predict if the film will be nominated for Best Picture at the 94th Academy Awards. Online sportsbooks in the US offer quite small odds, 1.94 for this to happen. And they might be right as critics already love the film and praised its story, the performances and of course, the music.
The film takes place in the Latin American neighborhood of New York, at Washington Heights. It tells the story of a young Dominican bodega owner, Usnavi who works hard to have a better life. It’s a real feel-good movie which can be the film of the summer. We shall see if it can win a nomination though for next year’s Oscars. Where it is likely to compete with Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story and other top contenders. Like another adaptation of classic sci-fi trilogy Dune or the biographical drama about Princess Diana, called Spencer. But next year there will be 10 nominees in the Best Picture category and In the Heights can clearly be one of them.
Chances for nomination in other categories
Beside the main category, In the Heights director Jon M. Chu can also be nominated for the Best Director Oscar. Online gambling sites in the US offer odds of 4.00 for that. Chu has also directed another successful musical, the Crazy Rich Asians and dance films, Step Up 2 and Step Up 3D. Even though he hasn’t received any nominations with his previous films, he might earn his first one with this musical. To be at the Academy Awards though seems a tough mission, with several great directors returning this year with new productions.
We might see some of the cast members in the Academy Award nominees. Like Anthony Ramos who plays the main character, Usnavi. Or Melissa Barrera, who plays a hairdresser with great artistic skills. But the film is full of other young actors and actresses who can all have a great future ahead of them. Even if they don’t win any nominations yet. But who knows, their dancing and singing skills beside their acting might be enough to win the hearts of the jury. The odds for any of them receiving a nomination for an acting role at the Oscar is 5.00 on 22Bet.
