Prosecutor Julie Scott wants a tougher court sentence for Manasseri for providing illegal gambling services which made him a massive $842,000 over six months.
According to gambling news, fifty-year-old Benedetto Manasseri has been identified as the leader of an illegal betting group that provided gambling services to many punters. From February until July 2012, Manasseri reportedly grossed a massive $842,000 as head of the illegal online gambling group.
Crown prosecutor Julie Scott believes that he should get a bigger prison sentence for his crime, despite there being no evidence of “overt threats” made during his gaming pursuits. She wants Manasseri to get a three-year prison term, instead of the two years that the defence is bargaining for as a punishment for his criminal activities.
Defence argues for a lower sentence
Prosecutor Scott argued that, “There is a lot that can be gleaned from what is unsaid.” She stated that Eric Russell, a member of the illegal gambling group, was very “stressed” and “intimidated” by being in a partnership with Manasseri. The defence lawyer Michael Edelson highlighted that there no signs of the normal trappings seen in criminal organizations.
Edelson argued that any comments or insights made by Russell into the dealings of the mobile betting group could have been “self-serving.” Later he pointed to the sentence that was issued to Russell for his involvement in a bookmaking rap. “Look at the sentence he got,” stated Edeldon for Russell’s $12,500 fine and a $3,500 forfeiture order.
