It’s hard to recall any year in recent history being as monumental in terms of political changes as 2016. Now we look ahead at two of the best political bets to make in 2017.
Bet on the Next French President
Like many nations nowadays, France’s top candidates for the top political position in the country are both considered to be right-wing. It has come down to Marine Le Pen and Francois Fillon for the top spot, so who will win?
As of now, there is no clear answer. A recent poll showed that Fillon has been rapidly taking much of Le Pen’s Catholic voter base, and could be on his way to a clean sweep. If we learned anything from the US election however, we learned that polls don’t always tell the whole story.
PaddyPower seems to think Fillon will get the job done. His odds to win are currently set at 4/6. Le Pen will need to continue to rally her supporters in order to pull off UK gambling news and win, but as of now her chances are looking slim. Le Pen’s betting odds to win the election are currently set at 8/5.
You can’t make a list of political bets to make in 2017 without listing the French presidency. The results will likely have massive implications for Europe moving forward, and could affect many others nation’s decisions.
Bet on The UK’s Next Prime Minister
Yes it’s true, Theresa May will be the Prime Minister of the UK until May of 2020, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bet on who takes her place with many different online sportsbooks in the UK. Just imagine if you had bet on Donald Trump early on in his campaign. You could have cashed out!
So why not take the opportunity to place a bet on the next UK Prime Minister now? PaddyPower already lists a few options, and some punters are intrigued. Leading the political betting lines at the moments is current labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who’s odds currently sit at 9/2.
Some of the betting underdogs include Sadiq Khan, London’s first Muslim mayor. Khan’s odds to become Prime Minister currently sit at 40/1. Feeling really bold? Why not place a bet on Wayne Rooney? The legendary footballer will soon retire from the field and could very well try his hand at politics. Rooney’s odds to win are currently set at 200/1.
