Why is There a Summer Break in Formula 1?

F1 summer break is not new, as the rule of having a one-month pause in racing is written down in its regulations. According to Article 21.8, all the drivers must follow the 14-day shutdown period in July and/or August. Besides drivers, teams and constructors must also stop making any changes to the cars, except the basic ones like maintenance and repair, but even the latter is possible only with FIA permission. However, no meetings, planning, or designing are allowed during this time.

If you are new to car racing, you might be wondering why this pause is needed. The reason for the Formula 1 summer break 2023 doesn’t look the same as in the 1990s or 2000s. The idea of having a pause emerged due to the growing number of races. Initially, there was a two-week break between German and Hungarian GPs, which later expanded to three and then four weeks.

In 2012, the F1 calendar first included 20+ Grand Prix events, making it more and more difficult for drivers to spend time with their families, work on their physical and mental health, and simply have a rest from tires and engines. Thanks to this “vacation”, they come back more motivated and determined to win. The same touches upon other team members.

From some viewers’ side, the break seems like an unnecessary gap between GPs. However, it is an excellent opportunity to focus on other things and return to screens more F1 hungry than before. If you don’t want to give up racing, use a three-week-long pause to study predictions on the next race winner to do the smartest bets at online sportsbooks in Germany. Although the Formula 1 summer break was criticized at the beginning, most drivers and their fans seem to like it in 2023.

Duration of the Formula 1 Summer Break 2023

Although we call it a one-month pause, the official duration of the Formula 1 summer break 2023 is two weeks. Why is it so, if the former Grand Prix in Belgium took place on July 30, while the next race in the Netherlands is scheduled for August 27?

A 14-day shutdown is a full stop period when neither drivers nor their teams can do anything related to the car racing. However, they can start working on their strategies in the remaining days, even though they don’t compete on circuits.

All in all, we will not see Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, and other cars back on track until the end of August 2023. The official beginning of the summer break was on July 31, the next day after the Belgian race. The pause will last until August 25, marking the first day of a three-day GP in the Netherlands. However, you can already find the odds for the Dutch Grand Prix at Ivibet and some other sportsbooks.
