After years of speculation and back-and-forth negotiation, the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquio is now set to take place on May2.
US Gambling news report that the most highly anticipated fight between the two greatest boxers of our time is now officially on. Floyd Mayweather has previously dodged the chance to fight Manny Pacquiao when provoked by the media, however now it seems that he has finally relented and agreed terms for what is looking to be the most lucrative fight in the history of boxing.
Before the fight was announced, it has been widely reported that the match could fetch over $200 million in income. However, now reports indicate that the figure is hovering above the $250 million mark. Mayweather, who is undefeated with a 47-0 record, is set to receive the greater share of the earnings around $150 million while Pacquiao will get “only” $100 million.
Rematch clause could see the pair lock horns one for a second time
Some sporting critics might say that this fight has come a little too late as the initial talk about the mega-fight started in 2009, after Money Mayweather came out of retirement to defeat Juan Manuel Marquez. Although that may be the case for some, real boxing fans will be delighted with this truly brilliant spectacle, which is set to take place in Las Vegas on May 2.
In order to generate even more interest in the fight and appease millions of fans globally, supposedly a rematch has also been inserted into the deal, according to mobile betting sites. The second fight could see the pair split a purse potentially valued at $300 million, which would effectively eclipse the first match in generated revenue.
