Current investigation on the corruption scandal in football’s governing body has seen Blatter reveal he might get himself detained.
Earlier this year, the arrest of 14 people by the United States FBI uncovered a huge corruption scandal that the world’s football governing has been keeping secret for over 2 decades. According to gambling news Swiss officials have further begun investigation into the election votes that saw the green light given to Russia and Qatar to host the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup respectively.
Although the FIFA president has not been indicted of any crime yet, the 79-year-old Swiss has admitted that he fears being arrested by the authorities from the United States. In addition, gaming news mentions that Blatter would not be going to Vancouver Canada to attend the women’s World Cup finals between Japan and USA due to the on-going investigations on him.
Sepp Blatter not worried about criticism
Speaking to Welt am Sonnstag, a German newspaper, the Swiss boss said “not because the Americans have anything concrete against me, but because (arresting me) would cause a public stir.” Furthermore, Blatter added that “until everything has been cleared up, I am not willing to take the risk of travelling.” Online casinos in Switzerland report Vancouver is among the countries Blatter can be extradited.
Blatter stated that he has no concern amidst the investigations he is presently facing. “Everyone has fears-for example, of dying but I have nothing to fear in the view of my work at FIFA.” The corruption scandal saw the FIFA boss announce his imminent resignation as the FIFA president with new elections due to occur between December and January next year.
