  • Fianna Fail lead the polls with only two points
  • Fine Gael face a huge drop compared to last year
  • Sinn Fien registered a seven-point surge

The 2020 general election in Ireland will be taking place on February 08. The Irish people will head to the polls to choose among six parties and independents. As polls show three contenders have a strong chance to win most seats including Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, and Sinn Fien.

The Irish political parties have launched their campaigns, after the nominations for candidates have been closed on January 22. The 32nd Dail was dissolved and the new Dail will meet for the first time on February 20 after the Irish election results. There are six parties competing but the ones who will likely win most seats are Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, and Sinn Fien. However, it looks like no party will be able to surpass the magic 80 seats. That means, no party will have the majority to rule the government alone.

As online sportsbook news in Ireland reported there are three top issues to take priority at the ballot box. Healthcare concerns include hospital bed shortages and waiting lists are taking the news again. The housing crisis and the homelessness crisis, which is worse than ever, is also a top priority for the voters. Besides, the climate emergency is gaining much attention.

Fianna Fail leads the polls with only two points – 2020 General Election in Ireland

The frontrunners are Fianna Fail who are still sticking to their 2016 slogan of “An Ireland for All”. The party enjoys a small lead with two points. According to the Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll, Fianna Fail is projected to win 25 percent of the seats. However, such a percentage is the lowest since before the last election. It is also a sharp drop in comparison to last year’s projections. The odds at 22BET Sportsbook suggest Fianna Fail will likely win most seats in the 2020 general election in Ireland with a 1.17 value. However, Fianna Fail party is standing on shaky ground and there might be upsets coming from Fine Gael and Sinn Fien.

Fine Gael face a huge drop compared to last year

The second biggest party Fine Gael might win 23 percent of the seats in the next Irish general election, according to the polls. The party was riding high in the polls for much of 2019. However, 23 percent is considered a huge drop for the party. Fine Gael will try to use its economic success, which made unemployment in Ireland at the lowest level. It will also try to use its universally-praised handling of the Brexit crisis to win most seats with 4.5 odds.

Sinn Fein registered a seven-point surge

The dark horse that might make a huge upset in the next Ireland elections is Sinn Fein. The party’s odds value at 21 to win most seats. The party is performing very strongly in the polls, with a seven-point surge. Recently, Sinn Fein became a close third with expectations to win 21 percent of the total vote. This is the biggest shock and it is probably because Sinn Fein will likely steal votes from the top two parties. It also has a very appealing campaign with a pledge to deliver the largest program of public housing building in the history of the State.

Among the smaller parties looking ahead to take part in the formation of the new government is the Labour party. In its campaign, the Labour party is focusing on solutions for health, work, children, and climate. However, the party will likely not gain more than 5 percent of the vote despite having 401 odds to win most seats. Another small party is the Green party which is sharply on the rise, despite being almost wiped out two elections ago. The Green party will likely make gains especially in Dublin leading the platform for environmental issues. The odds are 101 of the Greens to win most seats, but that is almost impossible.

It is worth mentioning that according to the polls, around 20 percent of the Irish people are still undecided. that means the Irish election results are hard to predict.
