What is a combination bet? How and where can punters use combination bets to wager on sports? Check all the important information about it along with examples of combination betting at online sportsbooks.
Online sports betting doesn’t always mean placing stakes on the expected winner of any competition or event. Although this type of betting (which is called single betting) is the most popular at online gambling sites in Greece, some punters aim for more. To increase their winning chances, bettors look for combinations bets. What are they and how do they work? Learn answers to these questions right now.
Combinations in sports wagering – what is this?
First of all, let’s give a definition of combination betting. It is usually explained as a practice of getting together multiple bets on a series of different selections. Unlike single bets, combinations consist of two or more selections called Double (2 selections), Treble (3 selections), 4-fold accumulator, 5-fold, 6-fold, and so on.
The idea of combination betting is to place multiple bets in order to reduce risk and gain profit from any of the bets. Combination bets don’t lose even if one of the selections is wrong. In other words, if at least one selection wins, you earn some profit.
Examples of combination betting on sports
Numerous online sportsbooks in Greece offer combination bets these days. To understand its concept better, let’s take a look at two examples. We will consider the two oldest types of sport with gambling associated with it – horse racing and football.
Horse racing is one of the easiest ways to understand combination betting. Let’s suppose, you want to wager $30 on any six-race competition. A good option is to place at least 3 separate bets of $10 each on which horse will win each of three races. If at least one horse wins at odds higher than 3/1, you earn a profit. Another option is betting on the winner of each of six races with $5. In this case, winning at odds at 6/1 will be profitable.
Football combination betting has similar principles. You can wager on one club to win at least one of the minimum two matches within one league. Or you can place a stake on the winning team of at least two matches using combination bets.
Types of combination bets that exist
Not all combinations consist of single bets. They may include both singles, multiple bets/accumulators. Apparently, the most popular examples of combination betting types are the following:
- Trixie – a combination placed on 3 selections with 3 doubles and a treble;
- Yankee – 4 selections with 6 doubles, 4 trebles, and a fourfold accumulator;
- Heinz – 6 selections with 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 6 five-folds, and a sixfold;
- Super Heinz – 7 selections with 21 doubles, 35 trebles/fourfolds, 21 five-folds, 7 six-folds, 1 sevenfold;
- Goliath – 8 selections and 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, 8 seven-folds, and an eightfold accumulator;
- Patent – Trixie plus 3 single bets;
- Lucky 15/31 – Yankee plus ⅘ singles;
- Lucky 63 – Heinz plus six single bets.
