The ex Blur frontman and his new release “Everyday Robots” are at the top of the favorites’ list for this year’s music award.
With 5 months left until the winner of the coveted prize is announced, Damon Albarn is already well-backed by bookmakers. In fact, he is leading the Mercury Music Prize betting at 6/1 at online and mobile betting site Ladbrokes.
Albarn was nominated for the award twice as part of Blur, and his second band Gorillaz was also shortlisted. The British singer and songwriter claimed winning the Mercury Prize would be “like carrying a dead albatross round your neck for eternity”, but it looks like he really wants to take the prize this year.
Scots at the top
Critics are already supporting “Everyday Robots” as the top favorite for this year’s award. The album was given a solid score of 76 out of 100 on Metacritic, totaling 36 reviews, so Ladbrokes already posted 6/1 odds for players looking to bet on the awards.
The company’s online sportsbook in the UK
offers 25/1 odds on Paolo Nutini’s “Caustic Love”, despite the fact that most critics consider the Scotsman to be Albarn’s most dangerous rival. Wild Beasts are second in the betting with odds of 8/1 and the Scottish band Chvrches is backed at 12/1.
