Is It A Distraction From War Or An Extension Of It?

China has bet on the Winter Olympics to go ahead relatively smoothly despite all the current difficulties. The opening ceremonies will be spectacular, the competition intense and they’ll all harp on about the unity of contest. Of course, those who regularly bet on sports in China at Bet365 won’t fall for this. They talk peace and humanity but the Olympics continue to be a very suspect celebration of killing skills. One will only need to watch the Biathlon to prove that true.
Some cynical people think Russia will bet on the Winter Olympics to distract everyone from their invasion of Ukraine. This is, of course, utterly ridiculous. The Winter Olympics just aren’t that popular. Wars aren’t popular either, but at least they make for interesting television. The Winter Olympics probably won’t. Which is odd, since the Olympics have long been a bastion for now defunct killing skills. Indeed some might say the Olympics is just warfare by some other means.
On the face of it this seems a tad harsh. People often cite the Olympics as one of the few times humanity comes together to celebrate itself. Shame then that much of the competition merely demonstrates who could kill who best if necessary. The Summer Olympics is far more guilty of this. However, you can still bet on the Winter Olympics to involve a fair few militaristic skills too. That’s why you can bet on the Biathlon at online sportsbook sites in China like Bet365.
Bet365 Has All You Need To Bet On The Winter Olympics
What is the biathlon except a test of a soldier’s ability to travel to a combat zone and shoot people in the snow? They already have cross-country skiing. So why involve the guns at all? Well you can bet on the Winter Olympics participants to ignore that obvious militaristic origin. People ignore how archery, the javelin and the marathon, amongst other summer events, all stem from killing. The shooting alone is a tad obvious isn’t it? So they’ll blithely pretend this is all fine too.
Winter Olympic Biathlon Odds
- Erik Lesser – 66/1
- Anton Smolski – 40/1
- Fabien Claude – 35/1
- Vetie Sjaadstad Christiansen – 33/1
- Simon Desthieux – 28/1
- Alexander Loginov – 22/1
- Benedikt Doll – 22/1
- Sturla Holm Laegreid – 14/1
- Martin Ponsiluoma – 14/1
- Tarjei Boe – 11/1
- Emilien Jacquelin – 9/1
- Sebastian Samuelsson – 6/1
- Quentin Fillon Maillet – 9/2
- Johannes Boe – 12/5
Perhaps it is. Maybe it’s oversensitive to think this inappropriate now. Maybe not. Einstein said; “I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Which makes the Olympics mostly practice for the war after next. So, if you’ve bet on the Winter Olympics distracting from a conflict in the Ukraine think again. Indeed if you’re Chinese gambling laws of decency will stop the games themselves turning into a conflict, you’re a gambler.
Could Asymmetrical Warfare Visit The Olympic Village?
Yes, it is a little unlikely that the Olympic village will suddenly become a warzone. However, no one will completely dismiss the possibility. Especially not the Chinese security services. Could animosity between national teams spill over from healthy competition to lethal loathing? Who would try and take whose team hostage? Y’know, to leverage support or lack of it in Ukraine? Fortunately, you probably shouldn’t bet on the Winter Olympics replicating Munich’s madness.
Most Gold Medals Odds
- Poland – 1000/1
- Finland – 1000/1
- GB – 999/1
- Italy – 500/1
- South Korea – 500/1
- France – 500/1
- Switzerland – 350/1
- Austria – 300/1
- Japan – 250/1
- China – 200/1
- Sweden – 150/1
- Netherlands – 66/1
- USA – 14/1
- Russia – 10/1
- Norway – 4/9
For a start the Chinese are running a tight ship. They don’t want to see the Olympic Village end up replicating Beirut in the 80s. The only problem is these days asymmetrical warfare is very popular. So whilst the odds on the Biathlon turning into open warfare between the teams are long, they’re not infinite. Obviously online betting sites in China like Bet365 aren’t offering odds for a bet on the Winter Olympics descending into out and out warfare. Just odd on the pretend one they simulate in the events.
