A new bill, that would go in effect on July 1, would legalize charity poker tournaments in Florida.
HB 799, introduced by Representative Elizabeth Porter, would legalize charity poker tournaments in Florida to raise money for local causes. Obviously, HB 799 would allow such tournaments only in certain conditions for citizens above 18 years old. Currently, poker is considered a game of chance (gambling) in the state of Florida, however, it’s available to play at licensed venues only. If the bill gets approved, charity organizations would be also allowed to conduct poker tournaments with buy-ins not exceeding $200.
