Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa had to chip in additional $80,000 in the form of casino chips, in order to fulfill the $5 million guaranteed World Poker Tour Championship.
This action made it into the gambling news and it was necessary because only 328 entrants joined, which was not enough to meet the announced guaranteed amount.
This tourney is also very special as it’s the first time since the beginning of the WPT Championship in 2002, when it’s not taking place in the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
The other different part is the fact that the buy-in was lowered from $25,000 to $15,000.
Prize pool shares
The previous time when the tournament, which follows all US gambling laws, also experienced less interest was in 2013, when there were only 146 players. So far, its peak was in 2007 when there were 639 entries, which raised the total prize pool to almost $15.5 million.
The champion this year will win $1,310,146, and a total of 36 players will share the prize pool money, therefore each earning will be at least $30,085.
The full final table payouts are as follows:
$1,310,146
2. $727,860
3. $452,729
4. $363,930
5. $286,292
6. $235,341
7. $189,244
8. $143,146
9. $97,048
