Bookmakers in the UK had second misfortunate weekend as most of the football results were super friendly for punters.
The bet on sports in England is particularly beneficial for football bettors in the beginning of 2014. This weekend was another proof of that, as betting houses have to pay millions of pounds to wagers after lucky football results.
The top 14 most famous teams all won in accumulator bets, which cost the High Street betting shops over GBP 10 million, according to Coral, one of the most popular online betting sites, strictly following all UK gambling laws.
The hard times for bookies continue
Simon Clare, Coral’s director of communications said: “Two weeks ago we suffered the worst football losses in our history. Lightning has effectively struck twice as yesterday’s losses were nearly as bad.”
He added: “Every single one of the most popular teams won and thousands of betting shop customers won four figure sums for less than a GBP 10 stake. Football punters have won over GBP 40 million from bookmakers in a fortnight. Our only consolation is there are several months left in the season with a World Cup to follow.”
The 14 top selections in accumulators that brought the big wins were Manchester City, for which Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick, Liverpool, Southampton, Wolves, Everton, Leicester, Swansea, Sunderland, Hull, Cardiff, Luton, Swindon, Rangers and Brighton.
