It is now official and it is only about weeks before we see the first passenger flight being launched by Blue Origin. We discuss here the Blue Origin flight odds on whether the 20 July date is realistic. We also look into another project by Blue Origin which is landing on the moon.

The Amazon founder and his brother Mark have decided to fly to the edge of space on Blue Origin’s New Shepherd rocket. He confirmed it on his Instagram page. Two other passengers will join them, including a bidder whose name was not released. The bidder will fly for $28 million. What is more, a fourth person an astronaut will likely join but the person is yet to be determined.

According to online sportsbook news in the United states, the rocket will carry a capsule to an altitude of over 340,000 feet. It is designed to fly autonomously without needing a pilot and to carry up to six people. The capsule has massive windows to give passengers a view of the earth below. The upcoming flight is planned to spend three minutes in zero gravity, before returning to earth. But, are the Blue Origin flight odds for the 20 July date realistic?

Everything is set for 20 July

According to CNBC, the plan is going ahead for the launch to take place on 20 July. The date marks the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The place from where the rocket will likely be launched is West Texas.

As the New York Times recently reported, the rocket has flown more than a dozen successful test flights without passengers. Besides, the passengers including Bezos, his brother, and the bidder are expected to have intensive training soon. So, everything seems to be going according to plan.

It is impossible for Bezos to plant a flag on the moon on 20 July

Bezos’ Blue Origin venture has already handed their proposal to NASA on how to carry astronauts down to the surface of the moon and bring them back up. They even released a 10-minute video on Youtube, explaining how they plan to do it. However, this project remains in the phase of testing and development.

A team of scientists is building and testing some parts of the rocket including the engine, the precision landing system. They are also running simulated docking tests and cryogenic tests for propellant tanks. Before a crewed mission launches to the moon, an uncrewed cargo mission will be planned to go one year in advance.

So, it is obvious that much testing, planning, and development needs to be achieved before an exact date is set. Despite Blue Origin flight odds suggesting Bezos might plant a flag on the moon on 20 July with a 1.5 value, there is zero chance for it to happen.
