Ottawa Senators vs. Dallas Stars
While the Ottawa Senators defense has been lacking this year, they’ve more than made up for it with their excellent goaltending and offense, which has been making them increasingly popular in NHL betting picks. Goalie Craig Anderson is coming off of two shutout victories, stopping 36 shots in a 4-0 win over Philadelphia, and 25 shots in a 3-0 win over Columbus just two days earlier. Meanwhile, the Senators’ offense continues to climb in the ranks, coming in at 7th in the league in scoring (2.9 gpg) and 10th in power play conversions.
The Dallas Stars are also coming off of a shutout win, with their defeat of Buffalo being their 5th win in a row. A lot of this can be credited to their offense, which has been very strong since the start of the regular season: they rank 2nd in scoring (3.5 gpg) and 2nd in power play conversions, and are tied with Montreal for most points in the league.
Both teams appear to be pretty hot right now, so who’s going to win and make US gambling news headlines? We’re going to say NHL hockey betting lines favorites, the Dallas Stars. The Stars are crushing the Eastern Conference right now and have better defense than the Senators, strongly suggesting that Ottawa won’t be getting another shutout victory tonight.
Our pick to win: Dallas Stars win 1.54 (27/50)
Calgary Flames vs. Anaheim Ducks
The Calgary Flames surprised online sportsbooks in US when they beat Chicago 2-1 last Friday, giving them their 3rd win in their last four games. They had seriously stepped up their game to take down the Blackhawks, with the star players being Karri Ramo, Sean Monahan, and Johnny Gaudreau. Even so, the Flames’ rankings are still lacking—they’re 23rd in the league in scoring (2.4 gpg), 30th in goals allowed (3.5 gpg), and 28th in power play conversions—and they’ll have to continue this upward trend in both their offense and defense if they want to have a shot at the playoffs.
The Anaheim Ducks have also been struggling this year. They were shutout by Tampa Bay 5-0 last Sunday, which was their 6th shutout of the 2015/16 NHL season. Their offense had been showing some improvement but their last game suggests it may be going south again. A genuine worry, given that they’re currently ranked second-to-last in the league in scoring with only 1.8 gpg. Their defense and goaltending has also been lacking.
So will the Flames be able to roast the Ducks tonight? We don’t think so. While Anaheim definitely needs to improve their team and fast, we think they’ll still be able to take down Calgary tonight. Calgary has been a very bad road team this year while Anaheim dominates at home, making us think that they’ll have the slight advantage.
Our pick to win: Anaheim Ducks win 1.63 (63/100)
