Discover Best Supporting Actress in a Series betting odds that show a really tough competition among the brightest TV stars of the year. Meryl or Helena, Emily or Toni – who will shine at the Golden Globes?
Golden Globes 2020 is a true challenge for journalists due to the equally strong nominees in every acting category. Previously we discussed a tense competition in the Best Actor in a Miniseries nomination but now it’s time for women to steal the show. Best Supporting Actress in a Series category collected five stunning females, in particular, an Oscar-winning Meryl Streep and Patricia Arquette. There are also 3 Academy Award nominees aiming for the prize – Helena Bonham Carter, Toni Collette, and Emily Watson. Sounds impressive, doesn’t it? Let’s see the ladies’ chances to win this time.
- Meryl Streep (Big Little Lies) – 1.42
- Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown) – 3.20
- Toni Collette (Unbelievable) – 8.50
- Patricia Arquette (The Act) – 11.00
- Emily Watson (Chernobyl) – 21.00
Meryl Streep leads Best Supporting Actress in a series betting odds
This sounds quite predictable but Meryl Streep is the main favorite to take home another award. An actress leads the Best Supporting Actress in a Series betting odds for the role in Big Little Lies. She plays Mary Louise Wright in season 2 and surely does it perfectly. In general, Meryl Streep’s name has already become the synonym of the award winner, so let’s speak honestly – no one will be surprised if she takes this one. Especially when betting odds on her victory are the lowest at the best sportsbooks in the US.
A 70-years-old living legend got her 33rd Golden Globes nomination this year. If Streep wins, she will get her 10th prize and become the most-awarded actress in GG history. If you still doubt, take a look at 1.42 odds on her victory and bet on Meryl Streep to take the crown.
A Chernobyl star shouldn’t be underestimated too
A 50-years old Oscar nominee, Emily Watson, is another strong nominee for the Golden Globes. Despite Best Supporting Actress in a Series betting odds put her in the last place (21.00), this Chernobyl star can be the main underdog of the ceremony, thanks to her powerful and memorable performance in 5-series show which was the biggest triumph of HBO this year. Yes, say bye to Game of Thrones. Watson played the only fictional in Chernobyl, however, it was too memorable to get a nomination at Emmys. Therefore, it won’t be a surprise if she will spoil Meryl Streep’s party and take the award in January.
Helena Bonham Carter to win her first Golden Globe?
January 2020 can be special for Helena Bonham Carter as she can win her first Golden Globe ever. Yes, we are surprised too. It is hard to believe but the iconic British film star hasn’t won any of the 7 Golden Globes nominations she got during her career. Probably, this time the luck will smile at Helena as she is a runner-up in the awards race with 3.20 odds on her victory.
This time, Bonham Carter got the nomination for The Crown – a British TV series about the Royal Family. A 53-year-old actress plays Princess Margaret in season 3 and her appearance in a series “saved the show” according to critics’ responses. Despite the difference in physical appearance, Helena’s acting in dramatic events of her character’s life was hilarious. Therefore, betting on Helena to win Best Supporting Actress in a Series is reasonable.
By the way, it’s actress’s first nomination for Golden Globes since 2013 when she hit the top 5 for playing Elizabeth Taylor. What’s even more interesting, Helena’s last nomination for acting in a Motion Picture was for The King’s Speech. In a 2010 film, she portrayed Queen Elizabeth who was a mother of her current heroine, Margaret, she got a nomination for. Is it a coincidence or a sign?
